Mentioning A User And Looking Up Hashtags On Instagram

You can type an @username to mention someone, but you will need to know the exact username, as Instagram does not allow searching for users.

You can also add hashtags by typing the # symbol followed by the text for the specific topic you are interested in.

Both the @username and hashtags will become actionable on Instagram, once the post goes through.

If you have multiple profiles selected, you will need to navigate to the specific Instagram profile tab to add the mention.

If you aren't certain about the @username or hashtags you're using, and you're posting to Instagram via the SmarterQueue Mobile App, you can (re)add them manually when copying the caption back into the Instagram App, before finalizing the post.

Mentioning A Page On Facebook

Recently Facebook made a change to how you can mention others. You can only add mentions when creating a post for a Page – you cannot add mentions for posts to a group.

In order to mention a Facebook Page inside the post, start typing an @ sign, followed by the page name - you can include spaces if the page name contains spaces.

As you type, a dropdown will appear with a list of search results of matching Facebook pages - select the correct page name from the list, and it will be shown highlighted in blue in your post text, confirming that the mention has been applied correctly.

Sometimes when you type in or paste a mention, we won't be able to detect it. To solve this, you can press the left arrow key to trigger the detection.

If you have multiple profiles selected, you will need to navigate to the specific Facebook profile tab to add the mention.

Sometimes typing the page name exactly as shown on Facebook does not display the page you are looking for. If this happens, here are some tips & tricks on adding the mention to your post:

1. Try adding the different words in the page ID in reverse order when searching. For example, if the page URL is www.facebook.com/SmarterQueue, this means that the Page ID is 'SmarterQueue'. Rather than searching by @SmarterQueue, try @QueueSmarter.

2. Try the Page ID, which can be found by visiting the page on Facebook's website and looking at the URL - the Page ID will be the characters after facebook.com (e.g. for Social Media Examiner's page, their URL is https://www.facebook.com/smexaminer, so the Page ID is smexaminer.

So you could try mentioning their page by typing any of the following:  @Social Media Examiner or @SocialMediaExaminer or @smexaminer.

3. Make sure there are no privacy or age/location restrictions on the page. Facebook may not return pages in search results that aren't public or have age/location restrictions.

If you're mentioning multiple pages, make sure to select each one from the drop-down before moving to adding/typing the next.

Do not attempt to edit or delete any part of the text within the blue tag, as this will break the tag, and the page will not be mentioned correctly in the post.

Note: Facebook’s API restricts all third-party tools from publishing mentions from Facebook Groups, and you cannot mention personal Profiles or Groups. Because of Facebook’s restrictions, you can only mention Facebook Pages from a Facebook Page.

Mentioning An Account And Adding Hashtags On Twitter

You can type a @username to mention someone, but you will need to know the exact username, as Twitter does not allow searching for users.

You can type any #hashtag. While Twitter does not offer hashtag lookups, these will become actionable once the post goes through.

Both the @username and hashtags will become actionable on Twitter, once the post goes through.

If you have multiple profiles selected, you will need to navigate to the specific Twitter profile tab to add the mention.

Mentioning An Account And Adding Hashtags for TikTok

You can type an @username to mention someone, but you will need to know the exact username, as TikTok does not allow searching for users.

You can also add hashtags by typing the # symbol followed by the text for the specific topic you are interested in.

Both the @username and hashtags will become actionable on TikTok, once the post goes through.

If you have multiple profiles selected, you will need to navigate to the specific TikTok profile tab to add the mention.

Mentioning A Page On LinkedIn

You can now include a mention for one or more LinkedIn Company Pages when creating a post for a LinkedIn Profile or Page – you cannot mention a LinkedIn Profile.

In order to mention a LinkedIn Page inside the post, start typing an @ sign, followed by the ID as shown in the page's URL:

Once the full correct page ID is added, a dropdown will appear with the matching LinkedIn page - select the page name and it will be shown highlighted in blue in your post text, confirming that the mention has been applied correctly.

Sometimes when you type in or paste a mention, we won't be able to detect it. To solve this, you can press the left arrow key to trigger the detection.

Note: You will need to know the URL ID and enter it entirely. SmarterQueue won't be able to do a general search for the company name or other keywords due to API limitations on LinkedIn's side.

You can enter the Page's ID to successfully mention it even if it doesn't have a vanity name, but a serial number instead.

If you have multiple profiles selected, you will need to navigate to the specific LinkedIn profile tab to add the mention.

Mentioning Accounts On Pinterest

We do not currently support mentions for Pinterest.

Common Questions

1. Is there a difference between mentioning and tagging?

Yes, there is! You can mention a profile/page in the text of a post on SmarterQueue, but tagging them in a picture is currently an API limitation for any third-party tools.
