Last week, several popular Twitter scheduling tools were found to be in violation of Twitter’s rules. The social media platform has restricted the use of its API to prevent tools using ‘bulk and aggressive’ following behaviour, rendering certain tools defunct in the process.
ManageFlitter, Statusbrew and Crowdfire, among others, were all sent this notice:
“Hello,
This is a policy violation notice from Twitter API Policy. An application registered to your Twitter account – ****, has been found in violation of the Developer Agreement and Policy, Automation Rules, and the Twitter Rules. Specifically, your app facilitates bulk and aggressive follow behavior, such as “follow churn.”
When pressed, this was Twitter’s statement:
Stopping spam and abuse that comes from the use of our APIs plays a big part in keeping Twitter healthy. These apps received previous warnings for violating our API rules and have been suspended. They can reapply for access with a new app that's compliant.
